1- Supply the correct form of the bracketed words to get a meaningful paragraph.

  Not long after America gained its (independent) independence two eminent (science) scientists and political (philosophy) philosophers migrated here from England. One of them was Joseph Priestley, the (discover) discoverer of oxygen ; Thomas Cooper was the other. Around these two immigrants most of the (science) scientific activities of the (youth) young republic were centered.

     City planning is now concentrated on two goals : first to tear down the old, unsanitary houses called "slums" where very poor people live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, and to build instead new, clean, light and airy houses where people can live in comfort even if they do not make much money. Second, to build superhighways leading into big cities, and inside big cities, so that the millions of automobiles will not cause constant traffic jams and also poison the air that people breathe.
